C1537 Dat24 different tape units

Hi, i have to replace a broken internal tape storage unit from an HP
server running Redhat linux.
The device i've pulled out is labelled C1537-00625 Revision 3725 Unit
ID 0118913-9804306601 Label Part Id: 3702377-01

My main concern is to find an identical unit, so that i won't have to
modify server's configuration.

I found that many C1537-xxxxx models exists, so i'm not sure if any
C1537 will do or i'll have to specifically find a C1537-00625. By the
way any idea where i could find a pdf manual or at least jumper
configuration for this drive?

Thanks in advance

Re: C1537 Dat24 different tape units

you should look at the Product number, usualy it is indicated on a stiker on the drive itself, the PN c1537-xxxx is usualy used for the spare, with differents revisions due to the channel used to supply the part, and the first part is similar to the product number.
So it should be ok to get the drive with the same product number.

Re: C1537 Dat24 different tape units

Thanks for your answer Marino. So if I understand correctly any C1537 will do, that's good news, it'll be probably easier to find one than a specific C1537-00625.
I've just read that C1555 model should be identical to C1537. Can anybody confirm this?

Thanks again, Lorenzo

Re: C1537 Dat24 different tape units

yes, but not exactly, a lot of drives are identified as c1537, you should found the product number somwhere on the unit to be sue to get the same model, or just insert Dat24i in partsurf to get all the dat24i Hp branded, dds-3 for Compaq brand, then there is the Digital brand...

Usualy all are compatible because based on DDS3 technology

Re: C1537 Dat24 different tape units

The number of product numbers under which the HP DDS-3 DAT drive, SCSI inquiry string C1537A, was sold is insane. And poorly documented. You can see any of the modern (this century) product numbers in that part surfer.

I would think as long as the drive calls itself C1537A from a SCSI perspective and has firmware L111, or L411 (recent release earlier this year for a reliability defect in drives built in '01), then you should be good to go.

That's assuming the drive you already have calls itself C1537A from a SCSI perspective and has firmware L111 on it.

The above link is for a partsurfer search of DAT24. You can also search on DDS-3 and even C1537A to find more parts.

Also keep in mind that some of those are internal units, some are external units, some are autoloaders, and some are plug-in units for rack enclosures.
