Can I put a DLT4 Drive into an SSL1016 Library
Quick background, we had an SSL1016 with DLT1 drive @ our warehouse. We replaced it with an SDLT Library. We hav about 1,000 DLT3 and DLT4 tapes that need to be catalogged. Since DLT1 uses the same tapes, but different format, is there a DLT4 drive I can throw into the SSL1016 to get it reading DLT3 and DLT4 media? I'm sure they don't make a specific drive for that chasis, but I would assume there has to be a drive somewhere in the product line that would fit the SSL1016.

No, this is not possible because there is no way you can get the tapes in or out the drive. The older DLT drives use a mechanical meachanism (lever/handle)to inject and eject the tape. The newer ones do it electronically
