Colorado 5 Gig Travan Internal Backup

Customer with a HP Colorado Internal 5 gig tape drive. When I try to run a
backup, I recieve this error meesage: 'The backup device reported an
unrecoverable hardware error. Ref 05-12-23-00-40B2.'

Unable to locate any references to this error.

Would appreciate any help that can be supplied.

Re: Colorado 5 Gig Travan Internal Backup

I can't find any reference to this specific code by searching our internal web,
but the support for this drive is out of our Colorado Support Center at
970-635-1500. You could also email them at colorado_support@hp.com or visit
their support site
at www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/hpcolorado9832.html

The enclosed link will lead you to the site to
download the HP Colorado Tape Drive Diagnostic Tool
which could help you to diagnose the unit.

Re: Colorado 5 Gig Travan Internal Backup

I have exactly the same problem. I have e-mailed the message below to support
at Colorado today. I would love to hear from you if you got any further with
the problem or just to discuss it.

"Running under Windows 98 on a Pentium III

We are experiencing some problems with a 5gb Colerado drive and backup
software. (Serial no. 00639236). We have been on the web site and carried out
all the procedures to deal with lockups and illegal operations but the problem
won't go away. If I uninstall and reinstall the backup software the device
seems to work once but then fails again with the message: "the backup device
reported an unrecoverable hardware error. Please insert another media to
continue". We have tried other tapes and retentioning them, (they are all
original HP media). We are now running out of ideas. Help!"

Thank you
