Compaq 4/8GB DAT DRV 00 error

Receiving hardware write failure error message. Firmware 4.12. Use different tape or check the SCSI cabling. I have tried 3 different tapes with same result. Cleaning tape drive option not available. What's next? Thank you.

reflash the firmware. Sometimes this will recover erroroneous messages.

What level of firmware do I need? Can't seem to find much info on the Compaq or HP website regarding this old drive. Also, how is this performed? Thanks.

Rebooted Novell 4.x Server and problem corrected. Didn't really want to take the server down, but it seemed to be the only option.
