Compression on C7438A and HP Openview Storage Data Protector

Any idea if it works? I cannot make head or tail! Dip switch 1 and 2 on, dataprotector does not accept hardware compression (i.e. it's grayed out after autoconfiguring the device). Cartridges are formatted at 32768 MB (even if medium size specified at 72000 MB).
Backup stops at 32 GB for cartridge is full...
HP Tape Tools, Compression Test, runs well...
