Configure HP surestore Dat24eu (C5653c) dat tape drvie

I purchased an external DAT24eu drive. I'm new to Unix and wanted to back up my system before making any system changes. I would like to know how to configure this external tape drive for my J5000 unix box running HP 11.11. Can I configure thru sam, if so how? Also, I don't know what drivers if any are needed. Could not find compatiable drivers on the HP website.
There is so much to learn....
Thanks for your assistance.

Hi,

If the hardware compatibility is maintained , then configuring the tape drive is not a big task. In HP-UX 11.11 , you don't need a separate driver. It's in-built "stape" driver would be used once it is detected by the OS.

Run # ioscan -f
Check the SCSI adapter installed in J5000
It will show the HP PN number.
Make sure it is supported as mentioned in the following HBA compatibility doc.
I would suggest to use User Guide available on the CDROM for configuration. Moreover you can refer following docs as well.

After connecting to the HBA , you can run the ioscan command again to make sure it is detected. Then you can test it using commands like tar etc..
