Connecting MSL 6030 to HP DL 380 Server using Fibre

Hi All

I am trying to connect MSL 6030 Tape Library having 2 tape drives to a HP DL 380 Server using Fibre channel.

However, the server is unable to recognise the tape library.

Connection I have made is as follows:

Tape Library --> Cisco Switch
SAN (MSA 1500) and server are connected to the Cisco Switch

Please let me know your comments and suggestions.

Have you created zoning on the cisco switch for the server HBA and the tape libray interface?

Hi,

What operating system are you running on the server ? Does the server see anything ?

If Linux, as per your username, then you may well have to modify /etc/modules.conf...

Cheers,

You'll also have to set up the mapping in the NSR (FC to SCSI bridge) in the tape library to let the server see the changer and the tape drives.

Re: Connecting MSL 6030 to HP DL 380 Server using Fibre

Hello All,

On behalf of Vipullinux please:

The above setup is:

Windows 2003 Std DL 380 server having 2 Emulex HBA connected to cisco switch see the SAN fine via MSA 1500 Array controller.

Tape library MSL installed with HP Fibre channel interface card

Server installed with Qlogic card

Fibre cable connected from Tape library directly to Qlogic HBA

Server shows Qlogic card but no media changer device (Tape library) detected.

No zoning in cisco switch / VSAN and there is no NSR - network storage router

SCSI cables and termination done as suggested in Tape Library

Please inform if any s/w installation for Qlogic card to detect Tape library

Original requirement was to detect tape library via switch so that it can be shared among other servers.. but direct connection to one server also doesn't work..

Many Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Connecting MSL 6030 to HP DL 380 Server using Fibre

What you call a "HP Fibre channel interface card" is an integrated NSR (E1200-160 probably). You need to access the management web of this router and configure the mapping for your server. If a server has no mapping asigned or the mapping is empty, it won't see any device.
