DAT-72 Backup Tape drive

Hi, I am unable to eject the tape from the drive. Is there a way to remove without shutting down server and removing drive and basically physically dimantling the tape drive?
I have exusted all other options.

The standard procedure is to power-cycle the server containing the drive, holding the eject button as it starts.

Re: DAT-72 Backup Tape drive

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply.

Sorry I should have included more info.
This is an internal SCSI tape drive.
The Server is an HP ProLiant ML350 G4 Server.
Tape drive is a HP DAT72 Digital Storage Works.
Tapes are HP DDS5 36/72GB.
Backup Software is Symantec Veritas Backup Exec 10 for windows Servers.

The tape drive light is blinking constantly.
I have tried holding in eject button for 20 to 30 seconds to no avail.
Should a restart force the ejection?

Re: DAT-72 Backup Tape drive

Power off server, disconnect the SCSI cable from the drive. Power on server while holding the eject button of the drive.

If it does not come out that way, log a support call for a tape drive replacement.

Re: DAT-72 Backup Tape drive

Thank you,

I will try these procedures and report my results.
The logs reported that the tapes had come to there end of life.
I purchased a new set of tapes and created a new set within Backup Exec.
It lasted about a week before the tape drive itself failed with a tape still in the drive.
I well let you know how I get on.

Re: DAT-72 Backup Tape drive

Hi, I managed to get the backup tape from the drive after a reboot.
Unfortunalty it looks like a new drive will be required.
Thank you for your help and support.

Regards,

Sean.
