native capacity means that that is the maximum data that can be held on the tape.
Usually data gets compressed at different rates onto the media and thus you may get more data into the physical 12GB limit.
When the media is quoted at 24GB we're assuming a 2:1 compression rate which is typical (although it depends alot on the type od data being backup up)
