DL380 SA6i Simplex mode and external Utlrium

Hi all ,
We have a dl380 g4 with 2 internal disk drives and an external ultrium 960 we wish to connect to the dl380 external port.

What I was thinking is that given a "simplex" configuration the external port would have used the second "available" channel. Instead I see the LTO drive connected in the same bus as the disk drives .

There isn't a way to use the second channel to attach the external LTO ?
