DL580 upgrade path

We currently have 2 DL580s in a prod environment. Because our DR site bit the dust, we need to build another quickly. However, we wantto purchase 2 of the new and improved DL580s..would these be the DL585s or what is the current DL580 replacement with the same or better performance?
Thanks.

Re: DL580 upgrade path

Doris:

The current "intel" DL580 is the DL580 G4 with obviously better performance, higher availability, more memory, etc. The DL585 and DL585G2 is an AMD offering in the same form factor.

You can go either way as both offer better performance, but the original DL580 was Intel based and if you want to stay Intel based, the you would need to go with the DL580G3 or G4.

Re: DL580 upgrade path

The 585 can also run Windows, correct? That is what we want. According to the handy dandy specification chart looks like it can run several diff. opsys, if I am reading it correctly. Please confirm because we have some 585s on site that we have recently purchased from HP and if they will deliver a performance increase beyond the 580s, we will want to use. Thank u for your replies.

Re: DL580 upgrade path

The 585 should be ableto run Windows 32bit and 64bit as well as various versions of Linux and Netware.

Depending on your application(s), you may or may not have a noticable increase in performance when comparing a 580 and a 585 of the same or similar specs. (i.e. a 580G3 or G4 vs. 585g2)

Definitely should see a big gain vs. an original 580.

What will you be running on the 585's?
