DLT 4000 compatibility with rp5430

I was wondering if I will be able to connect a SMART Desktop DLT 4000 Narrow Diff (C6382A) to a single port Ultra2 SCSI (A5149A) of a rp5430. Right now it is connected to a D350 through a Single Port Fast/Wide/Differential SCSI-2. Since the rp5430 hasn't arrived yet, I was wondering about the compatibility of the DLT 4000?.. if so, will I need a different cable?... will I need to get a FW Differential scsi-2 card?

Hi,

I'm fairly sure you'll need a different SCSI card, as you DLT4000 will be HVD. The card you'll need is a A4800A. The card you will have in your rp5430 (L class) is LVD.

Re: DLT 4000 compatibility with rp5430

Hello,

Nope, a DLT4000 should be a SE device, not HVD. HVD DLT4000s are for STK jukeboxes.

In theory, you can connect the DLT4000 to the onboard SCSI on the L1000, since LVD is backward-compatible to SE. However, I don't know the part number of the cable you need to connect that. I think you need a 50-pin to VHDC cable.

The FWD Card for the rp is A4800A - $200
The cable would be about $100 for a 5m. Have a great day.

Again, no.

A4800A is a PCI Fast Wide Differential SCSI-2 adapter. Narrow Differential SCSI is different. That's a Single-Ended device, not FWD.

Vincent, doesn't differential mean a HVD device?... this DLT is narrow differential not narrow SE, given that I guess I would need another SCSI card since the one with the L1000 is LVD... am I right?.

Re: DLT 4000 compatibility with rp5430

Hello,

Yep, you're right. Narrow differential connects to a differential controller. Order the A4800A.

HTH and sorry,
