DLT 40R (C5697A) can it be used with SCSI I

I'm looking for an inexpensive backup solution and I found DLT 40R drive. But, I've not been able to find any good specs for it. I have found out it uses SCSI III (I think) and is hot swappable. Does/has anyone used this device on a standard SCSI I (se) controller with a standard pc?

Thanks

Hello,

DLT40 should work on SE controller. I never saw it working on SCSI 3 actually. That's far too modern for it.

Thanks for a reply.
This is a DLT 40R. The R stands for rack mount(?) and it has (as far as I can tell) a SCSI-2 SCA-2 connector power and SCSI-2 (so it's not SCSI-III as I stated)
I have not been able to get a picture of it or a diagram of it's physical lay out, too.

Hello,

R stands for "Removable", since it's a hotswap drive.

That would be SCSI-2 SE drive then. Still SE, no LVD or HVD.

Thanks, Vince!

Wow, I gust re-read my messages. I'm working too many projects...

What I'm really trying to find out is: will this work with an Adaptec AHA-2940
or similar Intel SCSI controller and will I need a adapter converter to get it to work
with an internal 50 or 68 pin cable? (Now that I know it is SE compatible)

It may wind up on a HP-9000 server sometime later but I expect it to work there.

Sorry for not being clearer

Hello,

I think it will work on the card you mentioned.

Will this card be connected to an Intel based server?

On HP-UX machines, you need another HP card.

Yes, it will be on an Intel server. Do you know if I SCA to 68 or 50 pin converter will be needed?

Hello,

Follow this link:

Does your DLT40 have a 50-pin connector? I beleive it should. Does your Adaptec card host a 50-pin interface?

Re: DLT 40R (C5697A) can it be used with SCSI I

Vince, Thanks for your help.
Just as a follow up:
This tape drive works fine in a Intel based PC. And it will work with a low-end scsi controll as well. Yes, it SE but it still runs fast (well for me - it backs up 80 Gig worth of art work)
As will ALL DLT drives it works and I have had NO failes with it!
