Re: DLT 418 E Error b6h
The error B6H means that the tape drive has not unlocked the handle. The "OPEN DRV HANDLE" test only opens the handle and should only be run when the drive is empty or when the drive has already unlocked the handle.
To issue a request to the drive to unlock the handle, you need to run the "REWIND MEDIA" test. If that test passes then you can use the "OPEN DRV HANDLE" command.
The best way to unload a tape from a drive is to use the normal front panel unload. When unloading from the front panel all commands like unlocking the handle and opening the handle are done automatically and there are retries built in. The front panel tests only test one specific function with no retries.
If you are not running it, update to 2.12 firmware and wait for "DRV SELF TEST" to go away on the front panel. If it doesn't go away after 30 minutes your drive has failed and there is virtually no chance it will unlock the handle. If it does go away, try to use the normal unload drive command and if that fails, try the "EMERGENCY UNLOAD" in the test menu (new in 2.12). The EMERGENCY UNLOAD test can take up to 2 hours but tries every command known to get the drive to release a tape. If it fails the tape has to be manually removed.
