what is the maximum life of DLT tape or how many year we can use one dlt tape? 6 year or 8 year.. if we are using 8 year then what is the probability to retrive the stored data.
Hi, there will be no absolute answer, as it depends for example on: 1. How often a tape is used 2. What condition is it stored in Also how important is the data to you. A single tape that is used in a open office environment to back up daily will survive shorter than a tape that is part of a backup set used once a month, stored in good conditions. If data retrieval is critical I would perform multiple backups. We tend to change our tapes every 3 years
I'm not sure if you mean how many backups you can make on one tape, or if you mean how long will the tape physically last with recoverable data once a backup has been made to it (shelf life).
We use a DLTtape IV in a DLTvs80 drive.
HP recommends the tape be replaced after 100 full backups.
