We have two DLT8000 drives that require firmware upgrades. I got the LTT software and the firmware patch bundles.
First problem is that the recommended method of updating the firmware of choosing the library itself to update the firmware on the drives doesn't work. It claims there are no matching files. Ok, fine... I'll try the direct method even though the tool doesn't recommend it.
Which yielded a second problem... It complains when I try to select the V086 firmware for the drive that the personality doesn't match. Our other drives in the library are at firmware version V086/OML3. These two drives show as having version V080. The really weird part is that if I let LTT select it's own update, it chooses the E36R, which is for Ultrium drives according to the firmware file names. (The library sees the drive as a DLT8000 through the web interface.)
Something is definitely not meshing here and a search didn't yield much enlightenment on possibilities. Any ideas?

Re: DLT firmware update problem
are you sure all DLT have the correct product number and come from HP?
usualy you can use the option get files from web in order to download the correct FW from the web.
Does these two drives work correctly in the library at the moment?

Re: DLT firmware update problem
These were apparently two repaired drives, but the coworker who sent them in can't find the serial numbers on these drives in his paperwork for the outbound equipment. Possible the company that did the repairs actually just sent us two different drives. He's still checking that, I think. (We don't have hardware coverage from HP on this stuff.)
LTT and the library web interface show all drives are DLT8000. support ticket output attached.

Re: DLT firmware update problem
the sticket is missing the data files, the so called sub ticket files, can you attach then?
|__ Detailed Device Information
|__ HP C7200-8000 at 6.0.0[1-0/2/0/0.4.16.232.0.0.0] (sub ticket saved in 41e0f400-aaf3-11da-a33c-001083fd169f.dat)

|__ QUANTUM DLT8000 at 7.2.0[7-0/2/0/0.4.16.232.1.2.0] (sub ticket saved in 41edb6c2-aaf3-11da-9118-001083fd169f.dat)
|__ QUANTUM DLT8000 at 7.3.0[8-0/2/0/0.4.16.232.1.3.0] (sub ticket saved in 41f3c81e-aaf3-11da-bfb1-001083fd169f.dat)
|__ QUANTUM DLT8000 at 6.4.0[6-0/2/0/0.4.16.232.0.4.0] (sub ticket saved in 41f98c4a-aaf3-11da-88f4-001083fd169f.dat)
From what you said, apparently someone have put some non correct drives in the original shoes, each drive have specific personality, this mean that a stand alone drive cannot be used in a library, and the personality cannot be changed in the field.

Re: DLT firmware update problem
Not sure about these support files... I tried running the attached one against one of the specific drives that's the problem. When I view the support ticket on the screen, the personality shows as (0x126A) only. The others show up as OML3 - 0x0F03.

SolutionThe personality codes vary for different products. For pmHP, the Quantum DLT codes are: OEM1 = standalone drive, OML3 = HP-Greeley library, OMX105 = STK Library. PmCPQ used a number of different codes, including CPQ1, CPQ2, and CPA2.
