DLT tape drive does not automatically eject after backup has completed

Hi,
I am having a DLT 35/70 drive using veritas backup exec SW.
Recently i got the DLT drive replaced due to a mechanical problem, after replacing the drive i notice that drive does not automactically eject tape after backup has completed. Is there any solution for this??

Re: DLT tape drive does not automatically eject after backup has completed

Hi,

have a look at this:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/191695.htm

Condition:

-(if your using W2K,XP,2003) you should disable RSM services (removable storage manager)

Are you sure it is a 35/70 and not a 40/80?

Re: DLT tape drive does not automatically eject after backup has completed

Hi,

I am sure it is a DLT 35/70 drive, I have recently got it from HP engineer. Do you mean that only 40/80 drive would have this problem.

Re: DLT tape drive does not automatically eject after backup has completed

..Not a problem. Since the last firmware release for the 40/80 drive it is made to act the following way: After the backupjob finishes and an eject is initiated from the backup program. Th edrive will do an eject, but the enduser needs to take out the tape within 10 minutes. If this does not happen, the tapeunit will mount the tape again. The enduser would need to press the eject button to get the tape out. This all has been done to prevent drives to fail. There were some cases were the electronics would overheat. I never read anything about the 35/70 having the same problem. So check out if the drive ejects immediate after a job finishes. If so, it is a firmware thing...
