DLT tapes

Hi,

I don't have much knowledge of DLT tapes/drives and wondered if anyone can tell me if tapes that are used in DLT4000 drives can also be used in DLT8000 drives, the tape in question is a DLT IV.

Cheers

Re: DLT tapes

DLT IV's can be used in the 8000 without problem.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: DLT tapes

take a look, this apply to 7000 but 8000 should be similar

HP Surestore Tape Autoloaders and Libraries - DLT Tape IV Density Selection on a DLT4000 versus a DLT7000

QUESTION: When I insert a DLT IV data cartridge that was originally written by a DLT4000 into a DLT7000, I notice that both the 35 GB density and compression lights are on. Since this is the expected condition, I assume all is well. Is any additional formatting required?

ANSWER: No. The DLT4000 and the DLT7000 both support the DLT IV data cartridge. However, a DLT IV data cartridge originally written on a DLT7000 in 35 GB density cannot be read by a DLT4000 and will lose all its previous data when rewritten by a DLT4000. The type of file system formatting is transparent when a write is issued to the drive at beginning of tape (BOT).
