DLT vs 40/80 Speed Problems

I have two new ML350's with vs 40/80 DLT drives. Both are running Windows 2000 Sever SP3 and Veritas Backup Exec 8.6. My throughput is horrible, only 10-14 mb a minute, this is happening on both machines. Also, I am using the veritas tape drivers. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Re: DLT vs 40/80 Speed Problems

Thomas,
1. do not use RAID controllers to connect tapes drives;
2. check data block size for drive in backup utility to be 32K (not 2K);
3. make sure that bottleneck is really tape drive, and not a disk system. Use Perfomance Assessment Tool from http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareDownloadIndex.jhtml?lc=en&softitem=co-9534-2&sw_lang=en ;
4. check drive's throughtput with HP LTT tests http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html

Eugeny,
Thank you so very much. I have been pulling my hair out over this issue. It was the block size. Thanks again.
