DLT4000 not recognized by N4000 server

Greetings all, I am trying to connect a quantum dlt 4000 tape drive to my HP N4000 server. Here is an ioscan of the card where I am connecting the tape drive:
ba 3 0/4 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
ext_bus 3 0/4/0/0 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C875 Fast Wide Differential
target 5 0/4/0/0.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
ctl 3 0/4/0/0.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
/dev/rscsi/c3t7d0
ext_bus 4 0/4/0/1 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C875 Fast Wide Differential
target 6 0/4/0/1.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
ctl 4 0/4/0/1.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
/dev/rscsi/c4t7d0

As you can see, there is no tape drive listed.
Do I need special cables for this drive? I borrowed the S/E scsi cable from the dds drive to attach the DLT. I also borrowed the DDS scsi terminators. Other than that I cannot think of why my DLT4000 doesn't show up. Any thoughts would be geratly appreciated!

Re: DLT4000 not recognized by N4000 server

I should have mentioned it is an A5159A card that I am trying to attach this Quantum DLT 4000 to. So maybe I should simplify the question....I've got a dual port A5159A F/W diff scsi card and a Quantum DLT4000 - what cables/terminators do I need and how should they be connected?
Many thanks in advance!

Hello,

A DLT4000 drive is a SE device, not a FWD device. These are NOT compatible.

You can connect your drive to the LVD adapter on your N-Class. LVD is backwards-compatible to SE. You would need cable converters, though.

hmmm - I'm no expert, but are you sure you don't have that backwards? The HP engineers told me it is a FWD device and that I should be able to use it with the A5159A card. On the machine this DLT used to be plugged into, the port was also FWD...

Re: DLT4000 not recognized by N4000 server

Hello,

Yes I'm sorry, connecting with the A5159A card should work cuz it's an 8-bit Ultra 1 Wide SCSI. If it is 16 bit then it would not work.

Re: DLT4000 not recognized by N4000 server

Thanks for your help Vincent. I finally got the DLT to work. If anyone runs into this problem, you need scsi cable C2362B and no terminator is required on the A5159A card. You DO need to have a terminator on the Quantum 4000 DLT drive, though.
