Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

DLT8000 best practice

Morning/Afternoon/Evening All,

We are currently looking to do a tape upgrade from DLT8000 to LTO II.

Current usage of the DLT drives is about 14 hours a day, I believe that there is an HP recommended utilisation of these drives, does anyone know what that may be ?

eg 5,000 - 10,000 hrs per year for longest lifecycle.

Would appreciate suggestions.

Cheers

Re: DLT8000 best practice

According to the specifications, the LTOs (230, 460,960) are designed for a 100% duty cycle. All of them have a MTBF of 250,000 hours at 100%

Re: DLT8000 best practice

Thanks Uwe, I have read the specifications. 250,000 hrs @ 100% is about 28 years of non-stop use. Realistically, I doubt anything other than the human heart can function for this long without failing.

There must be an actual optimal usage for longest life.
