DP5.1 and default tape sizes for DLT4 and DDS3

In DataProtector 5.1 the default size for "Default DDS" is 2GB. If I have a DDS3 drive and tapes I have to manually format the tapes to: 12,288. Also for "Default DLT" is 20GB. I have DLTIV (35/70GB). Do I format the tapes for: 71,680?
Also is there a way to save these sizes into DP5.1 so I don't have to remember/type these formatting sizes each time?

Any 411 would be great. Thanks. :)

Re: DP5.1 and default tape sizes for DLT4 and DDS3

Hi,
Yes, it is possible. Edit the file /etc/opt/omni/options/global (Unix) or \options\global (Windows) on the Cell Manager.

Below is an example for DDS

MC_1=1 36 100 12000000 2

And for DLT

MC_10=1 36 250 36000000 2

The size is in kB you may need som trial before you get the result you want.

Sorry,
The value 2 (concurrency) in the DLT example should be 4 to get a default concurrency of 4.

Re: DP5.1 and default tape sizes for DLT4 and DDS3

Peter,

Most important is that DP will always use a tape untill the end of tape is reached, independent of the size specified during the format.

So if you would use 1 MB or 1 TB for the DLT format, you still would get around 70 GB compressed data on it.

Hi,
You don't have to worry of the tape format size b'coz even if you don't give size it will use the tape ( DAT or DLT ) upto its Maximum capacity on its own.
