DTL TL891 Library Backup Sessions

We have a TL891 connected to our HP True64 Fibre Network. We are also going to be using the TL891 to backup our Novell Servers via Target Agents.

We use Veritas 3.4GA DataCenter with a daily schedule setup to backup each Novell Server.

My question pertains to how each daily backup request is destributed across the tapes in the Library.

If the data being backed up exceeds the capacity of the DLT IV tapes, does the library then span to the next available tape?

Second, what happens the next day when a full backup is requested again? Does the previous days data get overwritten on the same tapes or does it create new sessions on other tapes?

Thanks, Dave K.

That is managed by the backup app, not the library. Typically you define media pools, and the backup uses as many tapes from each pool as necessary.

Again, this is dependent on how your media pools are defined, and what the retention period is. Typically you are going to keep your backups for some period of time, and overwrite tapes as the expire.
The journey IS the reward.
