Re: Data Protector Error using Autoloader 1/8 + Ultrium 460

Manuel,

Can you write to a tape with eg NT backup? If this works, you know at least it is a DP issue.

Apply the latest scsitab file of DP too. You can download it from the 'Device and SAN support matrices' at http://www.openview.hp.com/products/datapro/spec_0001.html

What is the output of 'devbra -dev'? The command is found in program files\omniback\bin. It gives again the hardware paths to the autoloader.

best regards,
Kurt

Re: Data Protector Error using Autoloader 1/8 + Ultrium 460

I have disabled Data Protector and enabled Windows RSM and windows drivers for LTO and Tape drive and the trouble remains here.

When I use NTbackup it begins to write to tape and it shows its estimation of 15 days to write 1 Gb to the tape :-(
Finally, (15' after and 8 Mb saved to the tape) NTbackup returned an error to the windows event log (hplto and symmpi)

Event type: Error
Source: symmpi
EventID: 9
Description: \Device\Scsi\symmpi1 timeout

Event type: Error
Source: hplto
Id. suceso: 7
Description: \Device\Tape0 has a bad block.

Have I an error Hardware??? How is it possible that NTbackup has saved 8 Mb to the tape and then it has crashed reporting HW errors?

Otherwise, I am using the lastest scsitab from the web.

... and about devbra output:

Exch HP:ThinStor AutoLdr Path: "scsi4:0:6:0" SN: "MXA05050DM"
Description: HP ThinStor AutoLdr 1/8
Revision: N12r Flags: 0x0002 Slots: 8 Drives: 1
Drive(s) SN:

Tape HP:Ultrium 2-SCSI Path: "scsi4:0:5:0C" SN: "HUL5A03810"
Description: HP LTO drive
Revision: F7BP Device type: lto [13] Flags: 0x0001

Re: Data Protector Error using Autoloader 1/8 + Ultrium 460

Up and Running!!!

I was changing all parts involved:
- server
- Software installation
- SCSI adapter
... trouble remains there!!

I was able to write and read the label tape but I was not able to write a backup.

Solution: To Change SCSI cable. Now the backup system is performing very well.

Thank you for your collaboration

Replace my 'soft' SCSI cable
