Data Protector Exress (DPX) Licensing

I am aware that new HP tape drives and some Libraries now ship with DPX. Once the registration is complete thorugh the EntitlementCertificateDPExpsSingleServerEdt.pdf
the 60 day Evaluation is a full Single Server Edition.

However, how does one get a license to conduct network backups?

I have tried looking through the products at http://www.hp.com/go/dataprotectorexpress

But I am still not able to figure out:
1) Which one is needed?
2) Do DPX Single Server users get a discount on the Network license?
3) How do you apply the new license?

Also is there a team that is trained on DPX that can answer these questions on the phone or by e-mail?

Re: Data Protector Exress (DPX) Licensing

Hello Jaclyn,

I'll try to answer your questions.

1) To upgrade from Single Server Edition (SSE) to the network capable product you would need to purchase SKU# BB117AT. Also for each additional server you will need a license. If you reply with how many additional servers you plan to backup and how many tape devices you will be using I can give you exact details.

2) Yes. The upgrade product, BB117AT, is about $250 less than the full product, BB117AA.

3) When you get the CD, use the included entitlement certificate to register and get your new key, just as you did with SSE. Then insert the CD and use the UPGRADE function from the menu. You will be asked for BOTH your SSE key and the NEW key as part of the upgrade.

Wow thank you!!!

This is more of a thrid party grapevine type question.

Are you aware of any way the customer can get in touch with someone to discuss these matters?

Re: Data Protector Exress (DPX) Licensing

Also this is the link I am accustomed to looking for licenses/clients

http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/ctoBases.asp?jumpid=re_NSS_datapexpsoftware&ProductLineId=450&FamilyId=2249

Is the SKU you mentioned above in this list??? Or how does the customer purchase that SKU if they do not have a sales rep?

Re: Data Protector Exress (DPX) Licensing

By the description of the SKU BB117AT @ hp Parts this appears to match what you are describing.

http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/MiddleFrame.asp?page=config&ProductLineId=450&FamilyId=2249&BaseId=17733&oi=E9CED&BEID=19701&SBLID=

Would this be the upgrade to SSE for network ability in DPX? It's the only thing that fits the price range you mentioned and the description you gave.

Re: Data Protector Exress (DPX) Licensing

Hi Jaclyn,

Sorry for the delays in responding. I am traveling and forgot to have the system notify me of emails.

Yes, BB117AT is the right SKU. You can purchase Data Protector Express from several sources. It is generally sold by resellers like CDW and Insight and is also sold at the HP Small Business Store.

Go to http://hp.com/go/dataprotectorexpress/ and you should find a "Purchse" link. You can also find a phone number there to talk to someone and purchase over the phone.

Hope that helps.
