Data error (cyclic redundancy check) on HP C1537A

Hi I am getting that error for the last couple of days, I have just put a brand new tape into the drive, hoping that this will fix the problem. I'm not too confident, is there anything I can do to rectify this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

hi,
this kind of error can accur for several reason, the first is a bad catridge, another is related to the heads of the tape drive, try to clean five time your head before checking a backup with a new tape.

Thanks Marino, I tried that but it's just spitting the cleaning tape out now. I guessing the drive is just knackered.

Hi,

Once the drive continuosly plays up it is
time to change it. Be aware that you only
need to clean the drive when the cleaning
light comes on. Carrying out cleaning to
tapes heads on a regular basis without the
drive asking to be cleaned will wear out
the drives prematurely.
