Dataprotector 5.1
We have a problem with this software and Windows Server 2003, I'm not sure if windows 2003 is compatible with Data Protector 5.1.
Someone is sure of this.

Re: Dataprotector 5.1
Hi,
We have a IBM x250 server with an internal DDS4, and Windows Server 2003. It is our Cell Manager.
We have a problem with Tape DDS4 ( ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14) because when we need to scan or format a new media with this device the Dataprotector 5.1 display the next mesage:
[Normal] From:MMA@pents14.galileo.ebel "ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14" Time: 10/9/2003 5:11:55 PM
STARTING Media Agent "ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14"
[Major] From:MSM@pents14.galileo.ebel "ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14" Time: 10/9/2003 5:12:02 PM
[65:48] Cleaning tape requested by device "ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14".
Please clean the drive.
[Normal] From: MMA@pents14.galileo.ebel "ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14" Time: 10/9/2003 5:12:03 PM
ABORTED Media Agent "ARCHIVE:Python 06240-XXX_pents14"
============================================================================
0 media out of 1 successfully scanned.
============================================================================
We have cleaned the tape, and this error don't appear when We use the System operation tool, because It's working ok.
I have applied: DPWIN_00038,DPWIN_00022,DPWIN_00027,DPWIN_00037.
Can you help us, please?
Thanks
Best Regards.
Luis Lino

Re: Dataprotector 5.1
Sounds like some sort of problem with the media. I've seen very similar with an STK DLT7000 library, where Maxell tapes would work without a problem, but brand new Fuji tapes would cause the cleaning light to come on. Luckily, the STK tech was able to identify from the serial numbers whether the tapes were Fuji or Maxell, since there was nothing obvious to say for sure.
However, a "request cleaning" message should not cause a problem. There's another message where a drive "requires cleaning" (or words to that effect). In the second instance, everything needs to stop for the drive to be cleaned. In the first, the drive should be cleaned at the next opportunity (whether software or firmware managed).

A sysadmin should never cross his fingers in the hope commands will work. Makes for a lot of mistakes while typing.
