Downgrade firmware in SDLT1 drive in MSL5052SL

How do I go about getting the firmware in my two SLDT1 (110GB) drives downgraded? An enthusiastic colleague of mine has upgraded to 2e2e (the latest) and it seems to be causing a problem - and when I try to use L&TT to downgrade it tells me this is password protected. What's the logic behind this, please?
