Drive cleaning error
Hi, I've a SureStore E DLT tape library with 2 drives. Recently, drive 2 always get a "cleaning needed" error and when I tried to clean it, it would fail with a "cleaning tape expired" error. This happened even after I had changed to a new cleaning tape. Cleaning drive 1 is alright though. The firmware level is 59 and the same on both drives. Can someone advise on what might be the problem? Also, is there a place where I can download manuals for the library? Thanks in advance.

Re: Drive cleaning error
To find the tape library manuals, use this search string
surestore tape library manuals
from this link
http://www.hp.com
pick your model.
In regards to the cleaning problem, does the driver still perform backups? If not, if you have a support contract, get the drive replaced.
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: Drive cleaning error
Hi Michael, thanks for the link.
Yes, my backups are still going thru but I'm afraid this may be a symptom of a failing drive. I'm trying to find out the problem and hopefully solve it before calling in the vendor.

Re: Drive cleaning error
Ricky,
install HP Library and Tape Tools from http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html , test the rive, generate support ticket. Try researching it. Anyway HP engineers will ask for this ticket
Please check that 'bad' drive's SCSI bus is properly terminated. If you'll post here the product number of your lib and its connection method (SCSI, FC) then I can tell you how library should be connected at the back
