SolutionI would update the parallel port driver from shuttletech.com firstly. Secondly the parallel port settings would need to be verified - in the system BIOS check the following:
Set port mode to EPP
DMA shoudl be 03
I/O should be 0378
Should be seen by now - Win ME being plug and play should find it anyhow - best bet would be the driver from shuttletech.com
