HP C5683-03030

I have an IBM DAT drive that appears to be a rebrand of an HP. It calls itself a C5683-03030.

Does anyone know where I can find drivers for Windows NT for this device?

Thanks,

Jules

Vince,
I've tried that already and the driver doesn't work. However I'm sceptical about the correctness of switch settings on the device itself. I think it was used with a unix server previously and I can't seem to get the thing to work. Oddly, onthe unit it has a sticker that says "Switches disabled" which is slightly odd.

Vince,

Just a normal PC style box. Currently using a symbios logic 53c875 controller.

Thanks,

Hello,

Follow the document I gave you. Switches should be all on except switch 3 off for a normal PC.

Vince,

I've tried that, and that doesn't make it work either.
Any idea why that could be?

Thanks,

Re: HP C5683-03030

Drivers tend to be specific to recognised drive ID's. That's why, for example, different generations of DDS-2 drives all report themselves as C1553A, so they all work with the same driver. Look at the HBA boot up banner and note what the drive ID's as. You might find a suitable NT driver on the IBM web site. You can't easily change the firmware to HP code.

Re: HP C5683-03030

The device reports itself to be an HP IBM-C568303030!D.

IBM do not supply drivers for NT for this product.

Can I frig the firmware for a driver to make it work?

Thanks,

Jules.

Re: HP C5683-03030

It isn't possible to just flash new firmware into the drive. To change the personality of the drive, the internal firmware/hardware codes need to be changed and this can't be done with normal firmware. It first needs to be flashed down to factory code called "mtc". However I recall that the IBM version drives have slightly different hardware too (3 LEDs not 2). It's probably easier to frig the ID strings in the driver!
