HP C5683A

This drive is writing to a tape of capacity 40GB but when 2 or 4 GB tape is tried to be written, i get the message "Tape is write protected" even though the tape is not write protected.

Hi,

The C5683A only supports read of DDS1 (90m) tapes, it will not write to them.

To minimise wear and tear on the drive it is best to use the "native tapes for each DAT drive. "Native" DDS tapes are, for example, DAT72 tapes for a DAT72 tape drive, DDS4 tapes for a DDS4 tape drive, and so on.
