Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

HP DAT 72 DDS SCSI

Hello,

I have a the above mentioned drive in a Windows 2003 Standard Edition machine. However, I am having the following problems with it:

* Sometimes in Removable Storage>Libaries> the device would have an X on it but then it would disappear

* The drive's status is fine in device Manager

* When I perform a backup sometimes I get the error:

The device reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: Bad data.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.

This has happened to alot of tapes, I am now in the proess of purchasing new tapes to elminate the chance it may be a tape. Let's take for example I do a manual backup on a tape yesterday if I come today and try to do the same backup I would get that error on the tape.

I've tried updating the firmware on the unit but still I have no idea why it isn't working, could it be just that the unit is faulty?

I am using NTBackup BTW.

Thanks,

Re: HP DAT 72 DDS SCSI

Hi,

Have you cleaned the tape drive ?

If so, and this also happens when you use new tapes, I would guess that the drive is faulty.

You should use LT&T to verify though.
