HP LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 tape question
WeтАЩve recently purchased LTO5 Tape Library and LTO 5 Cartridge.
HP 1/8 G2 LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 Fibre Channel Tape Autoloader
It did not came with tape lable, and was wondering if it would be ok if we use old LTO3 tape lable..?
Is it going to think the tape as LTO3 because of the label..? This is the barcode label that we stick on the tape.
I think the LTO drive will sense the tape but if there are several tapes, how is the drive going to distinguish the tapes?
thx in advance?

Re: HP LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 tape question
Hi Jimmy,
You could BUT
likely your barcodes have a suffix of L3 (LTO-3)
Ultrium-5 type barcodes will have a suffix of L5 (LTO-5)
Some backup software will use the suffix (L3) to identify this cartridge as an LTO-3 type cartridge. This is done to simplify media management in large environments. This *may* cause undesired results. Just be aware of this as you configure your backup application.
As far as I know the 1/8 Autoloader will not do anything with the barcodes other than read them and report them to your backup application for media management purposes.
best regards,
-Eric

Re: HP LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 tape question
Not 100% sure, but I guess the loader will "think" these are LTO-3 tapes because of the inventory scan results - better to use the correct labels.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

One final question, does HP offer any customization of the bar code as an option? Instead of the default barcode? Thx in advance
