HP MSL5000
Unloaded tape library and loaded replacement batch of tapes. Ran an inventory to check the tape names but most slots are now coming up as 'Updating'. Have shut Arcserve 12.0 services down and brought them up again. Powered off the tape library, to no avail. Have rebooted the server remotely but had no-one on-site to reboot the library at the same time. see attachment.

Re: HP MSL5000
To troulbeshoot if you have got a HW problem, on windows:
1. check the device manager. Do you see all devices.
2. Check the Eventlog for SCSI errors.
3. Stop all services for you're backup application.
Install (If not installed) Library & Tape Tools.
4. Run tests from LTT, Always run a scan on startup of LTT. Connectvity test, Inventory.
(Tests that write on the tape - Overwites!!)
Also the WEB interface on the Library controller, can be helpful (Used with care).
If you're hw turn out to workfine. A possible solution, is to reconfigure the HW in Arcserve.
cheers

Re: HP MSL5000
Thanks for your help - have found what it is - when the onsite guy loaded the library he forgot to check that the drives were empty. all slots are full of tapes so the drive has no-where to unload them to.
