HP Omniback II resets the scsi bus
It seems that Win2000 loose the physical connection to the Ultrium Tape Drive but there is no reason.
We made all the upgrades wich provided.
Any suggestions ???
Thanx a lot

Re: HP Omniback II resets the scsi bus
I would sugest find out if it's hardware or software problem first. Try to connect this tape to other server and other tape to this server. If all will be ok you have software problem. Maybe drivers to Ultrium ?
Good Luck !

Re: HP Omniback II resets the scsi bus
Does it manage to perform the backup on the tape, even if it is so slow? Was it working well before, or has it always performed like this?

Re: HP Omniback II resets the scsi bus
usualy scsi connection can lost the device for a time out. this time out can be caused by the status not ready of the tape device.
check for defective tape, if this accur always with the same catridge, may be this is defective and the tape try to recover defective cluster.
check also for the correct streaming of data, if you use a ultrium, you have to give information at a substained value, if these data doesn't arrive at the right flow, you may have problem with the tape device.
you can check the performance of the data readed on the server and passed to the tape using the PAT (performance assestment tool) from HP, it will give you how many data can be passed to the tape per second.
bye

Re: HP Omniback II resets the scsi bus
Is the Ultrium drive the only device on that SCSI interface ? If not, you should change it.
This tape drive needs the complete bandwidth of the SCSI bus to go in streaming mode.

Re: HP Omniback II resets the scsi bus
sometimes this problem can be caused by the windows native drivers. OmniBack uses its own drivers. Try to deactivate windows drivers for the ultrium.
