HP SSL 1016 Tape Autoloader with Ultrium 2 drive on Solaris 8?

Can anyone help me get an HP SSL 1016 Tape Autoloader with Ultrium 2 tape drive working with a Sun Fire V210 server running Solaris 5.8? I have more experience with Linux than Solaris, and am stumped.

I can connect to the tape autoloader via the web page at it's IP address, and can move tapes in and out of the drives. However, I tried all the drives listed in /dev/rmt/ with 'mt -f /dev/rmt/xxxx status' and got 'no tape.' The command 'iostat -En' shows an entry for rmt/0 with "Vendor: HP Product: Ultrium 2-SCSI Revision: F43W Serial No:" so I think it's connected correctly.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions. I'll be happy to try any diagnostics.

One other thing I just thought of: I don't think that there's an entry in /kernel/drv/st.conf for this tape unit. Can anyone tell me what it should be?

Also, do I have to use 'mtx' rather than 'mt' to control the tape autoloader robot?

Thanks, again, for all your help.
