HP Storage Works SSL1016 - robitic arm failing to load second tape
I have another problem now that is causing my SSL1016 to lock up.
Im using Veritas 9.1 and have set the device into 8 partitions for back up - if i do an inventry check on one of the partitions it runs it on the first tape but doesnt load the second.
This is the same for when i run my back up - it fulls the first tape - then fails. It doesnt seem to want to move the second tape into place.
Veritas gives me this error:
The robotic library has reported a general hardware error condition. Manu al intervention, calibration, etc., may be required. This may be a device related hardware problem, or it may be some other hardware problem (i.e.
SCSI card/bus etc.). The library and drive states have been set to offli ne. Please attend to this condition.
Have i missed something stupid - could do with some help.
Thanks for all your help

Re: HP Storage Works SSL1016 - robitic arm failing to load second tape
can you give the firmware release of autoloader and internal drive?
Is the autoloader attached to a Proliant server? Which SCSI card? Drivers?
Are Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 patched with SP1 and hot fixes up to 42?
Are you using latest Veritas drivers?
Let us know

Re: HP Storage Works SSL1016 - robitic arm failing to load second tape
This is what I did but you may not have to do all of this as I was trying to get a fresh start.
1. Completed firmware update.
2. Deleted all templates and jobs
3. Stopped all services
4. Logged into the autoloader via IP
5. Changed the mode of the unit to random.
6. Create my partitions again.
7. created jobs and sorted
Other things to check
1. You have the right scsi drive select on the device - eg. its on channel3 on the server so the device has to be on 3 as well.
2. I was told that the removable storage service win2k3 can cause issues when changing tapes but i havent seen this.
3. when ever you change something on the autoloader also restart the services
4. There are scripts on the veritas backup exec CD that will stop and start the services with a double click
Any problems please let me know
More than happy to help
