HP StoreEver 1/8 G2 LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS Tape Autoloader and Intell server

Hello All,

We have an Intell server with Windows Server 2008 R2 Server OS and HP StoreEver 1/8 G2 LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS Tape Autoloader connected to server through Intel® RAID Controller RS25SB008. All latest drivers for autoloader from

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=4209040&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=3319912&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4064#113216

are installed.

The problem is, that in windows device manager see only standalone tape drive, but Autoloader Media Changer does not appear. There are no any "Unknown device" in device manager also.

HP DataProtector also see only standalone tape drive, so we have no any ability to change tapes automaticly.

What was don wrong? What must be done to prorep configure this device?

Thanks in advance,

Maxim

Re: HP StoreEver 1/8 G2 LTO-5 Ultrium 3000 SAS Tape Autoloader and Intell server

Either your controller does not support the loader at all (seen on older smartarray controllers) or your library is in sequential or loop mode.

manual:

The device uses multiple L UNs to communicate with the Library . Most SAS RAID contr ollers do not
support multiple L UNs. Check the EBS matrix at http://www .hp.com/go/ebs to find a SAS HBA that
is supported on your server and qualified with the Library .

Sequential — the device will automatically unload the tape in the drive when the host software
sends an unload command to the drive and then automatically load the tape from the next
highest sequentially numbered full slot .

Loop — in Loop mode, the Library will load the tape from the lowest numbered full slot after
the tape from the highest numbered full slot is unloaded. If Loop is not listed, the Library will
stop automatically loading and unloading tapes after the tape from the last full slot is unloaded.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
