HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
I use tapeware which seems to work OK. I schedule a nightly backup and rotate between 5 weekday tapes. It performs the backup and the log is created with no errors.
I back up approx 14 gb each night on each tape.
I've deleted a file which I now want to restore (approximatly 70KB). I check the file and run the restore job and the status window pops up saying the restore job is running.
20 hours later and it still has not completed the job...it still says 0 of 1 files complete.
The tape does its usual fast and slow winds as if it is looking for the file but can't find it...this has occured with at least two tapes.
Should it take this long???

Re: HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
Clean u r drive with cleanning tape atleast for 5 times.I was facing same problem from last 2 days as u did.
Today I downloaded the HP tools from HP site and Checked my drive for errors.
I got the test report that my drive needs to be clibrated and cleanning.
I did that and now it workin fine.I opened the drive and try to clean the head also.I did it carefully so u can.
I think u can try this out.

Was it the internal SureStore T20 you cleaned?

Re: HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
could you tell me if the T20 is close to a CD-rom or DVD-rom?
Some of these devices could interfer with the read activity in T20.
If they are close to the upper part of the T20,this could be the cause.
In this case, try to put the T20 upper and the CD-Rom down on the tray.
bye

Re: HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
I assume you've had a similar problem and that worked? My current setup is (from top to bottom) - 3.5" Floppy (in a 5.25 bay), CD-ROM, HP Surestore T20.
If I move the T20 up it will be between the floppy and the CD-Rom...should I move the floppy to the middle and put the tape on top???
Thanks,
AB

Re: HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
yes this solve a few case where the verify task or the restore took long and long time.
just swap position of cd-rom and t20, floppy can stay there
let me know if it work also for you

Re: HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
However, when I rebooted the computer after swapping the drives I get the following in my event log:
Error: Unable to register COM class objects.
Error: The tapeware service hung on starting.
Error: RSM cannot manage library Tape). It encountered an unspecified error. This can be caused by a number of problems....
Any further ideas?

Re: HP SureStore T20, Tapeware, Win 2000 Server - Long Restore Time
just swapping the place of the device cannot create this kind of problem, I suggest you to check for bad conection or bend pins.
when all is ok retry a restore to see is the time is decreased

There must be another solution to the problem.
