HP Ultrium 460 drive speed low

Dear all:
I have encountered a problem regarding the HP MSL6060 tape library equipped with HP Ultriun 460 tape drives.(details please check the attatced file)
The problem is that the backup speed can not meet the spec. that HP indicated, ie. 30MB per second.
anyone can help me with it?

Use a larger block size for the backup. I use 256 kb in Data Protector towards an Ultrium2 drive. Througputs of 100 GB/hour are achieved on large files (+10 GB) even on a Windows server.

Gary,
You should NOT use tar. Please check this site.

Re: HP Ultrium 460 drive speed low

Try using the Performance Assessment Tool to check performance and bottlenecks!

If this link does not work go to the MSL6060 support page select HP-UX 11.x and find PAT.

Re: HP Ultrium 460 drive speed low

Hi Gary,

99% of all performance issues with high performance tape drives like the Ultrium 460 end up being due to the disk subsystem, drivers, OS, backup app, HBA, etc etc , i.e. not tape drive related.

Please use the excellent performance tools that we provide to benchmark the disk to memory and memory to tape speeds you can achieve on your system and have followed our performance trouble shooting guide. All of this is available at hp.com, I have included links below. These will help you identify where the bottleneck exists in your case. The performance troublshooting guide explains how to use the performance tools to identify issues.
