Hardware Compression

I have an HP Ultrium 6250 external drive. I'm using Acronis Backup advanced for backing up. What I want to do is use Hardware compression rather than software. However, in the device settings (Device Manager) I cannot change the setting for compression. (it's FALSE) at the moment. How can I turn this on?
