How do I retrieve data written in dos on DAT 24 tape

I have old DAT 12/24 tapes 4mm with data written to them in DOS, I am now running XP pro with a DAT 24 USB ext drive. Can any one point me in the right direction for reading the data on the tape and transferring it to my PC?

Hi,

the primary question is not the OS, but the tool (and format) used to store the data (e.g. tar ...).

Do you remember the tool used?
