Hi I think that your best bet is to use the HP L&TT program that is downloadable for several different platforms

then you can get all the information you need and more besides

If the version you have downloaded is 3.4 then in the instruction manual page 40 it tells you how to check if you have the latest firmware files in your firmware directory and offers you 3 ways of finding out,

As said, LTT is a good option, but I prefer to use this free tool only in windows environment.

For HP-UX systems, you can use #mstm in order to check its fw version.

As mentioned above, HP LTT (www.hp.com/support/tapetools).

Yes, it is.

(You can install LTT on a windows host, and then use File -> Get Files from web to see the firmware revs for all supported devices).

MSTM might work for a DDS3, but newer products are most likely not supported. All diagnostic tool support for tape drives and libraries is via LTT (even on HPUX).

The other problem with MSTM and DDS is the firmware files were only available for the DDS1 & 2 drives that had HP-UX specific firmware. If you have one with the reseller firmware, then MSTM won't help you. I also don't believe the MSTM firmware files were published on the external web for DDS drives.
