Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

How to know if the driver need cleaning?

My company has a ESL9000 with 8 drivers. Is there any managment tool to know if the drivers need cleaning?

It seems the auto cleaning function does not work.

Re: How to know if the driver need cleaning?

Hi,
Maybe there has not been any need for cleaning yet.

I assume you use some kind of backup software. For. ex. Data Protector can be configured for " Dirty drive detection" and automatic cleaning. There is also a test procedure for the cleaning.
I belive other backup software has similar features.

Some librarys can also be configured to handle cleaning internal but, a such configuration may cause conflicts with the software.

You can buy application to manage your library - Command View ESL
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/tlarchitecture/cvesl.html
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12039_div/12039_div.HTML
but only for cleaning tapes monitoring, I think is to expensive :))

Re: How to know if the driver need cleaning?

Have you installed Library and tape tools?

What is the result of the diagnostic test?

Normal Drive Cleaning is mentioned in some of the more professional Backup programs. (Arcserve for example)

It is also mentioned within Systems Insight Manger.
