Hp Storage Works DAT 160 USB: Tape stuck!

Hello,

I have an Hp tape drive with a tape stuck inside, that can't be ejected!

It has been stuck there for quite a while now, and all my back up jobs are failing because of it.

I really need your help.

Thank you in advance.

I haven't used one of these in years but the force eject procedures are probably still the same.

First try holding the eject button for over 15 seconds then release - the drive will try to eject when the button is released

If that fails, disconnect the USB cable, disconnect power, reconnect power without the USB cable

- try normal eject

- try holding eject button

Last method I know is to leave the USB cable off, disconnect power, with drive power off reconnect power, hold eject button, turn drive on.

One other thought - if you can use the LTT tool (http://www.hp.com/go/tapetools) with the drive and all else fails, you may try updating firmware. The tape has to be ejected to flash new firmware and that may go through a different eject routine.
