LTO drive needs special driver to compress

Have heard that an LTO drive needs a special HP/UX driver in order to enable the drive's hardware compression. Is this true?
THanks

Re: LTO drive needs special driver to compress

Dear Wayne,
Data compression is on by default with HP LTO Ultrium drives. There is no special driver. Compression on or off can be determined by the device file parameters. HP-UX generates both files in the format:
/dev/rmt/0h for hardware data compression.

Re: LTO drive needs special driver to compress

Wayne,

The device file /dev/rtmt/0mn will use hardware compression on the drive.

More information on the device files can be obtained with the command: 'lssf /dev/rmt/0mn'

All the device fiels are shown with the command 'ioscan -funC tape'

best regards,
Kurt
