LTT & MSL 6060 with 3 LTO3 drives and NS E1200-160 problem

Everytimge I launch LTT and it starts the scan it simply spins its wheels for ~15 minutes (never finishes I kill it) with the pending I/O climbing well over 2000. Any ideas? Is this normal?

HW - DL360G4p with HBA connected to 2 NS E1200-160 in a MSL6060 library with 3 LT0 3 drives

Thanks

Peter, no it's not normal.

What OS are you running L&TT on?

Does the unit otherwise behave fine with your backup app, or are you having issues there as well?

The preferred way to get help with LTT issues is the ltt_team@hp.com mailbox.

Re: LTT & MSL 6060 with 3 LTO3 drives and NS E1200-160 problem

David,

It's Windows 2003 Standard SP1

The unit runs fine with BackupExec 10d but we've had spotty performance. Some jobs run as expected others run horribly.

Thanks for the address, I'll keep that one handy.

Peter,

You could contact the LTT team, and send them the EventLog.ltt file from the logs folder, and they may have some ideas on the hang. There may be a particular device on the SAN that is not responding to the inquiry commands.

What fibre card are you using? Have you checked to see if all the components (and fimrware versions) are listed as supported in the EBS compatability matrix? You can find it at www.hp.com/go/ebs (the matrix link is on the right).

Regarding your backup problems, here are two fairly common issue (and solutions) with backups on win2003:

Disable Win2000 RSM (also applies to Win2003):
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00023443

Disable Win2003 Plug & Play polling:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=PSD_OT040301_CW01

This assumes that Backup Exec is not configured to use windows RSM (some applications have this as an option, and very only use that method - most manage the library directly through the SCSI passthru driver).
