Looking for DLT3

We are running W2K server with SP 2. We have installed a DLT 40/80 on a Compaq DL 380 server. When a DLT 4 tape is inserted, the "Tape in Use" light blinks for several minutes. Then, the "Compress" (which is active) and "40" lights are illuminated for a few seconds. Then they turn off, while "Tape in Use" still flashes. Then the Unload button activates. The alert on Backup Exec 8.6 asks for a DLT 3 tape. Why would it be looking for a DLT 3 instead of DLT 4? By the way, this was working just fine until 2 weeks or so ago. Thanks!
