MSA1000 configuration under Linux Redhat AS 2.4.21

Hi,
When connecting to http://server_name:2301, I get the message "Unable to complete your request due to added security features" but the connection process continues and reaches the login page, when connecting "administrator/administrator", I am rejected with message "Your login attempt was rejected" (see file attached). In addition I got error message when trying to display certain pages and used Refresh facility. Anybody can help ? Thanks

Hi Consty,

From your attached screenshots all the information is there explaining why you saw the initial "error" message. The reason is simply because HP has improved the security of the System Management Hompage (SMH) interface by now requiring the use of the secure-http "https" protocol when trying to access the system via web-interface. You are attempting to login via the old way of http URL and port (2301)...http://server_name:2301. The error page that comes up is not really an error but is intended to inform you that the SMH interface has now been enhanced to be more secure and automatically redirects you to the secure-http login page, i.e. https://server_name:2381. You see at the bottom of the page it says "This link is to the equivalent secure link." That's where it carries you.

Your next problem of logging in sounds like you're not entering your username and password correctly. Do you have a user account "administrator" with password "administrator"? Have you tried logging in as "root" with your root password? In Linux "root" is the equivalent of "administrator" in Windows.

Hope this helps,
Russell

Thanks a lot Russel for your answer.
In fact,
I read somewhere that I should log in with "administrator/administrator" the first time but I did not realize that the account must exist in Linux server. Is that the case ?

Thanks again

Re: MSA1000 configuration under Linux Redhat AS 2.4.21

Hi Consty,

I've not been able to find the HP document you referred to that instructs you to enter "administrator/administrator" for the first log in but here's a link to the HP support page where you can find the latest Array Configuration Utility User Guide.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual〈=en&cc=us&docIndexId=179111&taskId=101&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=468780

If you download the first User Guide PDF (Posted 13 July, 06) and refer to page 8, "Opening ACU in Browser mode" it guides you through the steps. Step 5, "Log in", says...

- If you are using version 2.0.0 or newer of the System Management Homepage, use your operating system user name and password.
- If you are using an older version of the System Management Homepage, use your WBEM user name and password.

...so I'd recommend trying to log in as "root" or another user that has sufficient access to configure devices. Actually, it's possible "administrator/administrator" is the default WBEM user name and password applied to the older interface that you probably don't have.

If you do have an older version of the System Management Homepage and can't remember your WBEM user name and password to log in here's the link to the HP Array Configuration Utility download page. Download, update and then try using your Linux user name and password:

Hope this helps,

Re: MSA1000 configuration under Linux Redhat AS 2.4.21

Thanks Russel,
In fact I discovered a bootbale CD and got directly in the MSA configuration screen and it works because it created /dev/sda device. I tried it with only one server connected.
Now I want to connect a second server, do I need to destroy everything and recreate? How ?
There is on thing else I want know, is the logical volume or the device /dev/sda seen on both system ? If yes, can it be accessed at the same time ? How to move from one server to the other.

Just adding to what Russell said -

1. TO access due you need admin/root account on the local machine - yes
2. Do they serve as login credentilas _ yes
3. Suggestion _ latest version of SMH as from hp.com and us the root account to login to SMH

Cheers.

Re: MSA1000 configuration under Linux Redhat AS 2.4.21

Thanks,
Before installing the SMH, I would like to know if the logical volumes must be seen on
both server (dmesg) or not. I see all the logical volumes on one server (the first configures) but not on the other. If normal, how would I shift from on server to the other.
Thanks for help

Re: MSA1000 configuration under Linux Redhat AS 2.4.21

Hi,
Now I am seeing the drives on both system, my system had a problem. Is it possible to use a cross câble from PC to MSA1000 to configure a MSA instead of Serial. How to set the IP address of the MSA to connect it to the local network.
Thanks
